This degree offers fully online courses that can be accessed asynchronously from anywhere in the world. Students are required to meet regular deadlines for submitting assignments.

For exams, MSOL students can take their exams anywhere in the world over a period of two days, but these exams must be completed in person. Students can either come to the UCLA campus during the official exam time or complete their exams at a local test center.

No live components are required. Occasional live lectures may be offered, but these are not mandatory. Students also have the option to participate in live orientation sessions and faculty office hours. They are also welcome to attend the on-campus graduation.
Students may complete up to three courses at a time. However, because this is a part-time program, we recommend students take one course each quarter.
36 units (nine courses at four units each).

Yes, this program is specifically designed to be completed part-time by working professionals. Asynchronous courses make it possible to view lectures at the times that are most convenient for you.

All students must complete and pass three designated, written exam questions. Each question must be from a different graduate-level course.

These exams are offered concurrently with the final exams. You may select which of these exams you would like to count toward the Comprehensive Exam Requirement. See the curriculum page for more information.
